چکیده

We present a high resolution study of the specularity of the atomic reflection from an evanescent wave mirror using velocity selective Raman transitions. We observed a double structure in the velocity distribution after reflection: a peak consistent with specular reflection and a diffuse reflection pedestal whose contribution decreases rapidly with increasing detuning. The diffuse reflection is due to two distinct effects: spontaneous emission in the evanescent wave and roughness in the evanescent wave potential whose amplitude is smaller than the de Broglie wavelength of the reflected atoms.

Comparative Analysis of Packet and Trigger Waves Originating from a Finite Wavelength Instability

The finite wavelength instability generates trigger and packet waves in an extended three-variable Brusselatortype model. The trigger waves account for experimentally observed stacking (shock) structures and acceleration of oncoming waves before collision observed in the Belousov-Zhabotinsky system. Packet waves exhibit specular reflection from surfaces. The mouth of a narrow tube connected to ...

Determining Surface Roughness and Shape of Specular Diffuse Lobe Objects Using Photometric Sampling Device

The photometric sampling method extracts shape and reflectance properties of surfaces by using multiple illumination directions and a single viewing direction. We have previously proposed a recovering algorithm for smooth surfaces. One of the limitations of the previous algorithm is that it cannot recover the shape and roughness of specular lobe dominant surfaces. Surface reflection consists of...

Ridged atomic mirrors and atomic nanoscope

Recent results on the reflection of waves from ridged mirrors are discussed. Numerical calculations, analytical estimates and the direct measurements of coefficient of specular reflection of atomic waves from solid-state mirrors are combined. The reflectivity is approximated as an elementary function of period L of ridges, their width , wavenumber K, grazing angle θ and effective depth w of the...

Infrared deflectometry for the inspection of diffusely specular surfaces

Deflectometry is a full-field gradient technique that lends itself very well to testing specular surfaces. It uses the geometry of specular reflection to determine the gradient of the surface under inspection. In consequence, a necessary precondition to apply deflectometry is the presence of at least partially specular reflection. Surfaces with larger roughness have increasingly diffuse reflect...

A new general reflectance model for computer graphics is presented. The model is based on physical optics and describes specular, di-rectional diffuse, and uniform diffuse reflection by a surface. Thereflected light pattern depends on wavelength, incidence angle, twosurface roughness parameters. and surface refractive index. The for-mulation is self consistent in terms of...
